Fashion has become a convoluted world we have consumed ourselves with. The extreme complexity of the industry as a whole has set standards most can't reach, some dominate and others we don't even see. Fashion by definition is a popular trend in styles of dress; we live our lives in it. "Fashion" by most, however, is defined by whatever may be new on the racks at Forever21 for example. "Trend" based fashion, mass market fashion sweeps the nation by storm and this fast paced, trend based, disposable product fills every Tweens closet to the brim. But, what I want to talk about is style. Rachel Zoe's famous quote - "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak."
Style sets us apart from the rest and brings us together; the manner of doing something that makes a statement, inspires and impacts lives. Karl Lagerfeld, we all know and love him. Chanel is probably the most iconic brand we can think of. The pearls, pencil skirts, and jackets, the staples never go out of style. Style is forever and evolves over time to match the trends of today. Style is being eccentric and minimalistic, it's bold and brave, it bares all and you think to yourself "Thats's It! I'm complete." Then next month when you see the new cover of Vogue, your mind is blown again.
Constantly I am mesmerized by the brands The Row, Victoria Beckham and Emilio Pucci to name a few. All different and their styles each bring me something new each day. Luxury brands and in markets of their own, these iconic brands withhold their style and push the boundaries just a little further each season. The Row is like a dream, each look like a cloud I wish to drown myself in. The impeccable product of the Olsen's has won recognition through CFDA (Council of Fashion designers of America). Truly a brand I wish to match the level of and one I have the utmost respect for.
I've worked in retail for far too long, the experience has given me a much greater appreciation for fine quality brands. The contemporary market is much like luxury minimalistic brands just at a lower cost. Even here you can find amazing quality in the clothes you want to wear. The Row identifies with fine lines and perfect fit, similar to my own designing. The details are on the inside. The construction of a garment explains the price and is where most of the "art" of fashion is held. I am extremely textile meaning I have to touch everything. When shopping, I love to feel the weight of a fabric, the texture of a button.
The fashion industry is wearable art; we live our lives in it. I created Capitol F as a medium to show you the design process before fashion hits the runway. Fashion how I see it, how I like it. Come back soon to get the inside scoop as I start a new collection. See You Then!
