Hello, World!
Fall is a time to explore your wanderlust and the best part about the cold temps is dressing in layers.

At first glance, I was not impressed. I saw a cluster of color hanging on the exposed brick wall, too bright for my taste, but I had to touch it. Being very textile, I have to touch everything I pass, lets also call this OCD. The closer I come to this draped garment, I realize it withholds texture! It is now an alluring object drawing me in. VELVET! The luxurious feel and bohemian spirit of this gorgeous lounge coat was a true standout piece. I had to try it on.
When you're in a store trying on clothes, this is usually the make it or break it deal. You buy clothing that gives you a feeling, a sense of power and even an uplifting spark. If you're anything like me, this power changes between seasons and with it being fall and also so close to Halloween (my favorite holiday), this power and feeling with in me is dark, whimsical, and at times, haunting. I tossed the velvet coat around my shoulders, tucked my arms in and before I turned around to have a look in the mirror, I knew exactly what feeling this coat was giving me. Stevie Knicks took over my body. I popped out of the fitting room and began to prance around the store. I was not expecting a velvet coat to make me so happy.
I have worked with velvet before, but nothing like this... Velvet is considered one of the most luxurious fabrics. The quality of velvet fabric is based on the type of fiber used to produce the fabric. The most luxurious velvet - silk velvet - is now commonly blended with rayon for a soft, drapey effect.
The Frame Velvet Kimono from Johnny Was is a fantastic alternative to a cardigan. Full of captivating color, it is anything but boring. The simple design allows for its beautiful draped hem as well as a shape to fit every body type. This is truly a stunning garment!

Velvet can bring such dimension to any wardrobe and add depth to your closet. Mastering textiles, like velvet, comes from construction. The nap direction is very important, as with any other napped fabric. Have you noticed the dramatic color definition in a velvet garment before? Nap-up and nap-down direction creates quite a noticeable color change in such a deep, luxurious cut-pile fabric.
After finding the Frame Velvet Kimono, I knew there had to be something even better. It took me a few moments to find and that is because the rich, dark color was hidden within the shadows of the crowded racks of clothing. But, I found it! Reminiscent of a peacock feather, there it was. This stunning Bessil Velvet Kimono, also by Johnny Was, I had to have.
Now, this one is more my style. Midi length (on me), button up style jacket in a deep, luscious green. I thought feeling like Stevie Knicks was a magical moment but this jacket makes me feel well, like me! An eye catching piece like no other. Light or dark wash denim, it doesn't matter. Pointed toe boots, however, is a perfect match. I think it is chic to wear a longer sleeve layering piece under a statement top coat. I picked this Mrena basic grey top not only because the color complements the green velvet, but also because it is extra long ( spandex overload ). When dressing, I believe lengths of garments should complement one another and I love to keep things long BUT I also threw this top on because I saw some editor during this past fashion week making a statement saying the dress over jean trend is coming back. So I gave it a try and I don't regret it!
